This enables it to respond quickly to all new development in the world of academia and meet the requirements of employers. Development Studies’ programme is one such bold initiative in this regard. IMSciences proudly claims to be the first institute in the Peshawar region to offer Masters in Development Studies.

MSc. Development Studies
Development studies is an interdisciplinary program that encompasses a range of related disciplines including International Relations, Economics, Management and Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Gender Studies, Environment, Economics and Law, to name a few.  Development Studies is a highly demanded and fastest growing programme in Pakistan. Pakistan, being a developing economy and society, is in high need of development related courses for enhancing our understanding through analytical and critical lens and approaches. This programme intends to familiarize students to development theory, policy and practice; recent trends in the development sector and to enhance their critical appreciation of the development discourse at the theoretical and praxis levels.  The course will also cover issues on Globalization and the implications for the South. This is pertinent, given our need to understand the consequences of globalization and the geo-political policy shifts on developing countries, particularly on Pakistan and the wider region.

The Programme Will Be of Interest to People working in NGO's, international aid agencies, mid-career government officials, people in social service, national planning institutions, private sector consultancies, community based developmental agencies and aspiring researchers. Recent graduates wishing to pursue a career in development sector is provided a golden opportunity to opt for this course.

Learning Outcome: It is envisaged that at upon successful completion of the course students will have a good knowledge of development related issues and the ability to apply their knowledge to policy analysis and practical problem-solving in their respective organizations. The course also aims to produce development and humanitarian practitioners with enhanced ability and skills to engage with the development and change processes and challenges through innovative and critical approaches. Also after the completion of the programme, students will have a solid academic knowledge that will give them clear competitive edge in vast development sector including non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), multi-lateral and bi-lateral institutions and organizations, donor and support organizations/agencies, Multi National Corporations (MNC's), aid & development-related agencies and miscellaneous development institutions and organizations.

 

Primary aim

 

Development Studies program aims to identify the gap between academic and practical dimensions of development sector. To fulfill this aim, structure of development studies program aims to equip its students with all necessary knowledge in current thematic areas of development sector such as sustainable development and poverty reduction in general and gender, development economics, international relations, globalization etc in particular. This core academic course structure also has intrinsic ability to develop research skills, proficient communication abilities, and geographical, cultural and sociological knowledge. The courses are design in a way that it will provide an optimum combination of modern practices in international development sector with their applicability in local context.

For Master’s degree in Development Studies, a candidate will be required to complete course work of 66 credit hours including dissertation.

 
     
 
Eligibility for Admission
 
     
 
Admission to MSc. Development Studies has the basic requirement for admission of a BA, BSc, B.Com, BBA and HND (with HEC equivalence certificate) or an equivalent degree. At least 2nd division securing 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply.
